Get MotivatED Challenge & Def Jam Rapstar Contest Update, 3/1/11
This past week, 14 more motivated young students have submitted their rap and spoken word videos to the Get Schooled Def Jam Rapstar Contest, competing for the chance to produce their rhyme with Def Jam producers like Russell Simmons and Kevin Liles, and performing on BET’s 106 & Park! We’ve seen submissions from many of our Get MotivatED schools, such as Kenwood Academy in Chicago, West Seattle High School in Seattle, and George Washington High School (AKA G-Dubb) in Denver, to name just a few.
Check out Chicago student Aaliyah, who at 17 has already founded her own independent record label! She’s “ready to get her learn on”!
We’re also profiling George Washington High School this week. Also referred to as GW and GWHS, George Washington High School was the final stop on our 2010 Get Schooled Tour last fall. Ludacris, Carmelo Anthony, La La, Sway, and Saigon shared some important advice with the GW Patriots about why staying in school is key to achieving their dreams. Needless to say, G-Dubb students left the rally ready to step up for their education.
